FAIR WAGES FOR MUSICIANS

Newburgh Jewish Music Series Art and Culture on Newburgh, NY waterfront and Orange County Arboretum
Newburgh Jazz Go Round

Musicians are disrespected and unfairly compensated. We must change that. No other profession is as consistently called upon to share their talent, craft, and God’s gifts for free or cheap.

It's the right time for a change

A professional musician spends thousands of hours and dollars perfecting their skills, so why are they not being treated fairly?

SIGN PETITION NOW!

African American Heritage Music Trail. Art and Culture on Newburgh, NY waterfront and Orange County Arboretum

Petition Purpose

  • To encourage every musician to pledge not to accept more than one low- or non-paid gig a year.
  • To ask all musicians who perform for free or cheap not to accept these gigs under any circumstance, as a show of respect for fellow musicians that use their craft as their primary source of income.

If a band member wants to accept a “cause gig,” only that member will perform for free, but he or she will self-pay or negotiate fair wages with other members.

  • To ask all businesses and non-profit organizations to pledge to use fair wage practices for all performances, and not to ask musicians to perform for free or cheap.

We encourage businesses and non-profit organizations to think about and question their methods of operation, as well as how it affects all musicians across the  industry.
