FAIR WAGES FOR MUSICIANS
Musicians are disrespected and unfairly compensated. We must change that. No other profession is as consistently called upon to share their talent, craft, and God’s gifts for free or cheap.
It's the right time for a change
A professional musician spends thousands of hours and dollars perfecting their skills, so why are they not being treated fairly?
We are appealing to anyone who agrees that music, the arts is great for community building and overall is vital everyone. That music CAN make a difference in the life of a child, adult and senior. It comfortably brings people together and is FUN!!
We are appealing to all that agree that musicians should be fairly compensated for their work when asked to perform, the same as other professionals who have spent the time, resources and money developing their craft.
We are appealing to semi-professional and amateur musicians, those who have a steady 9-5 income and are hobbyists, those who do not depend on gigs to pay bill and care for your family.
We are appealing to any musician that does not respect the profession or value of musicians and to those who are not aware how their actions have a negative impact on the entire music industry.
We are asking that ALL musicians not to play for free or cheap, and not to pay any sort of fee for a performing opportunity.
We are appealing to businesses, organizations and governments (local, state and federal decision-makers) that create opportunities for artists, employ musicians, that they never ask musicians to perform for free or cheap. This will provide a more supportive and sustainable environment for musicians and your business by creating demand.
We are appealing to musician hubs, networks, art organizations, and any other businesses that create opportunities for artists or employs the musicians-as-customers economic model. This model directly uses musicians as the driving income source, seemly advocating opportunities for artists, making a profit directly from musicians, yet not fairly compensating them.

Petition Purpose
- To encourage every musician to pledge not to accept more than one low- or non-paid gig a year.
- To ask all musicians who perform for free or cheap not to accept these gigs under any circumstance, as a show of respect for fellow musicians that use their craft as their primary source of income.
If a band member wants to accept a “cause gig,” only that member will perform for free, but he or she will self-pay or negotiate fair wages with other members.
- To ask all businesses and non-profit organizations to pledge to use fair wage practices for all performances, and not to ask musicians to perform for free or cheap.
We encourage businesses and non-profit organizations to think about and question their methods of operation, as well as how it affects all musicians across the industry.
